EXCERPT
THE MAN WAITING FOR them at the western entrance held a sign.
Written in black marker were the words Hester and Party.
Savannah thought the word "party" ironic since she hadn't felt like doing anything of the sort since arriving in the future. For one, no one's about. All the other passengers had departed with their waiting parties. And this spot seemed to be the most lonesome of all entrances.
Also, it became her task to carry the cans of gray nutrients they had received in Alexandria and her hands had become sore. She tried switching the bag from one hand to the other. This only temporarily relieved the pain she felt from the tight band of plastic digging into her skin. One can had already been emptied by Kenneth; another was half-empty. Four full cans remained.
Thinking of eating the dreary, dull food once more made her pine for her mother's supper table where she could eat steaming hot tomato soup with oyster crackers.
So she wasn't in a party mood. Not at all.
The man lowered the sign and stepped forward upon seeing Unquill and the two children. He wore a Hawaiian shirt buttoned up halfway, showing a thick mat of chest hair. Loose sweat pants hung about his legs. He had pushed up a pair of sunglasses into his jet-black hair. He had dark skin, not as dark as the men waiting outside Linso's tent, yet not as light as Unquill's own skin.
“You are Hester Unquill, right?” the man inquired.
Unquill stopped short. Savannah looked up to see a bewildered expression on his face. To her, men holding placards at airports was nothing new.
The situation was different for Unquill. He pushed Savannah and Kenneth behind him. Savannah peered around one of his legs that was as big as a tree trunk. The back of his leg smelled of leaves, she distinctly thought.
Unquill said, “Yes, that's me.”
The sign fell to the ground as the man pulled a weapon from his pants pocket.

Mystery in Jakarta Children of Time Book 5 eBook GJ Winters
Children of Time: Mystery of Jakarta is the 5th book of the series by G.J. Winters. In this series, you will follow two young kids, Kenneth and Savannah and their loyal ally, Unquill on their journey to save the world.I've actually been reading the Children of Time series since the very first book. In the first book, these two kids were taken from the 21st century into the futuristic 73rd century. Of course, they weren't taken without any reason. In fact, they have a specific purpose to be brought into this strange world. These two special individuals were the only ones that can save the universe! But what's interesting to me is that at first they have no idea how they can do that. That's when they meet a native of this world called Unquill and they begin to form a close bond.
As I read each book, I begin to love this series more and more. I love the character development, the futuristic and mysterious setting, and learning how these kids are able to solve these mysteries and plots to achieve their ultimate goal.
As usual, G.J. Winters does a great job writing this interesting sci-fi story. He adds a lot of detail in his plot and the development of the characters. He always finds a way to make it interesting for me that I never seem to want to stop reading.

Mystery in Jakarta Children of Time Book 5 eBook GJ Winters Reviews
I've been reading the Children of Time series for quite a while now, and I've found that the books just keep on getting better and better. Great job to G. J. Winters! Keep on writing!
The story of Kenneth and Savannah begins in the first book, when they are suddenly taken out of their 21st century into the weird world of the 73rd century. Of course, they aren't taken merely for a ride- they are taken with a purpose- actually several purposes. Mainly, these purposes have to deal with saving the world, pretty much over and over again. The problem is, of course, that Savannah and Kenneth are only two kids, who are not used to anything in this strange time. But I think their cluelessness is what made the story so appealing to me- it made me, as the clueless, open-minded reader, to want to learn about this world along with the kids, and see their perspectives of it. What made the series especially enjoyable was the fact that Winters writes not just from the point of view of one character- he writes from both Kenneth and Savannah's point of view. Not only did this make the story more interesting and easier to grasp, it also enabled me to find out more about each character and his or her personality.
I would definitely recommend this as a good sci-fi read its only drawback is that the books tend to be too short, so the story is a bit awkward at some points. But once I really got into it, it made perfect sense and was very interesting.
The concept is good but the serial is expensive for the length if the books. There are other serials out there that are better executed and only $.99 per episode.
